This means that the seam is less raised and less likely to wear, especially in places that are subject to a lot of friction (e.g. card case). The narrow side also allows you to reach tighter places, such as a zipper.

The rounded side is also suitable for flattening and smoothing out marks in the leather, such as creases or marks caused by staples.
